Lever Lock Basics

Lever locks are now the standard locking device for commercial applications. It is activated by pressing or pulling down on a lever, which releases the latch and opens the door.

Components for Lever Locks

While there are several different types of lever locks, they all have some basic components. They have multiple levers, each consisting of a flat piece of metal (usually steel).

In addition to the levers, lever locks also have a component called the end of the post. The stump is secured to the end of the bolt and is designed to prevent the corresponding bolt from moving until all levers are properly aligned in the proper position.

Lever locks also contain washers. The washers are, of course, circular pieces of metal placed around the bolt or similar fastener. In a lever lock, washers are used between the levers so that the levers rise when the key is inserted and turned.
